Jackin ur thredz. Hey man, my friends and I have been table topping Dark Heresy (a warhammer 40k rp) and I really miss the more fantasy feel. One of the things I plan on purchasing with this pay check is a copy of Kamarathin kingdom of Tursh. I'm gonna run my own game because as much as I love my friends, the way my buddy runs his game is a little too tame for me. (bases almost everything on die rolls and doesn't take alot of talents and skills into account. Good for casual gamers but a little bland for me.) Hope to get some tips from you on running a game. <3 you guys. Say hi to anne for me.

Oh ps. Last semester of jc. You guys should come visit me in La Jolla if you guys go to comic con!

Man, that's awesome! Glad to hear you're getting into gaming.

Make sure that you pick up a copy of the Hero System 6th Edition 1 and 2 as well as download a copy of the Conversion Doc. As for tips, here are a bunch:

Hero System Tips

Overall, for Hero System advice and tips and questions and whatnot, you cannot do better than to go to Herogames.com forums and talk and ask and everything else, they are the best bunch of folks that will often bend over backwards to help.

Kamarathin tips:
Start small. Keep it local until you get the proper feel for the game world and how your party handles that. Use the introductory Dark Waters adventure as a very simple way to introduce you and your players into the game world.

Get the Kingdom of Tursh book and read it. The key thing about the Kamarathin setting is its depth and nuance. It isn't about traipsing out to a dungeon, kicking the door in, killing monster A, looting it, repeat. In fact, good luck finding any monsters. There are few magic items, all of which are legendary and have histories, they are also coveted items and any PC that ever acquires one will spend the rest of his days fending off the thieves and assassins sent to acquire it...in other words, the PC becomes the monster to be looted.

Kamarathin is focused not on loot but on the PC's and how they interact and survive in the world. Using their skills and inherent talents to get them through, rather than relying on Epic lewt drops.

Sweet thanks man. I'll keep you updated on the games. I'm still broke and adjusting to this semester. Waiting for pay check and financial aid (as long as I don't get rejected). Woot.
